Put that Light out!
On 16th October 2023, we had the privilege of showing one of our local schools; Whitefriars, around the Air Raid Shelters that are situated underneath Tuesday Market Place in King’s Lynn town centre.
The Air Raid Shelters are believed to have been there since 1940-41 and the two shelters are constructed from steel- reinforced concrete. Thanks to the Borough Council opening up, we were able to show some of the school children around one of the Air Raid Shelters. It was fantastic to see some of their reactions.
Some of the school children are currently learning all about WW2, so as you can imagine, going down the Air Raid Shelter really brings all the things they’ve learnt to life!
The children also experienced a simulation of what it was like to experience an Air Raid thanks to the sound system that’s available. The sounds of Aeroplanes and bombs could be heard in the distance as the children stood in the dark listening for the simulation to be over.
A big thank you to Whitefriars school for the privilege of showing some of you children around the Air Raid Shelters.
