Generous Donation Brings New Opportunities for Beneficiaries

The Bridge for Heroes recently received a generous donation of £500 from an ‘ex-RAF bod’. The gentleman was moved to contribute as he feels that the Bridge for Heroes provides an essential service, and understands some of the challenges facing charities, especially in the current financial climate. He also hopes that his gesture might inspire others to follow suit, contributing to a worthwhile cause supporting the local Armed Forces community.

At The Bridge for Heroes, every donation counts, and £500 will go some way to support our core services: providing hot meals, activity sessions, and personalised support for those in need.

Smaller donations are just as valuable, with every pound going directly to make a difference to our beneficiaries. Here is how even a modest contribution can make a tangible impact:

  • £10 provides a hot, home-cooked meal in a social setting. These meals give veterans and their families not only the nourishment they need but also the chance to connect with others, reducing isolation and fostering a sense of community.
  • £15 funds a half-hour activity session. Activities such as equine therapy, guitar lessons and woodwork bring joy and relaxation, providing participants with outlets for self-expression and stress relief.
  • £25 covers a one-on-one session with a welfare officer. These sessions are crucial for veterans who need personalised guidance, whether it’s help navigating mental health resources, accessing benefits, or simply having someone to talk to.
  • £30 enables an outreach or home visit. For beneficiaries who may struggle to leave their homes due to physical or mental health challenges, these visits provide much-needed support, companionship, and assistance in a familiar environment.

Showing your support for The Bridge for Heroes by making a donation will allow us to continue providing the essential services that help our beneficiaries to ‘live well’. Every shared meal, every activity enjoyed, every chat with a peer, volunteer, or welfare officer, contributes to improving and maintaining the physical health and emotional well-being of our beneficiaries.

We feel strongly that our core services and activities should be offered at no cost to the individual, but at the same time, we face the same rising costs that other small businesses and charities are struggling to meet (rent, utilities, staff etc), costs that are often not covered by our grant funding.

We have no doubt that our work makes a difference – you only need to speak with our beneficiaries to find out how lives have been transformed, friendships formed, and value and meaning restored – and we want our community to continue to thrive. There are many ways you can make a donation to support our efforts. Check out our website, www.thebridgeforheroes.org, and social media, @thebridgeforheroes, for more ways to give. Or pop into the Bridge Centre and speak to a member of the team.
