The Bridge for Heroes is shining a spotlight on the incredible contribution made by its volunteers, whose dedication and compassion help keep the charity running day after day.
From welcoming veterans and their families into the Drop-In Centre to providing vital transport for those unable to travel independently, volunteers are at the heart of the organisation’s work supporting members of the armed forces community and their families.
The charity says volunteers make an enormous difference, not only in the practical support they provide, but also in creating a sense of community and connection for the armed forces community who may otherwise feel isolated.
Volunteer driver Brian explained why giving his time means so much to him:
“Volunteering gives me a real sense of purpose and allows me to feel that I’m making a positive difference. Every week I help drive beneficiaries into the Drop-In Centre who otherwise may not be able to attend. Knowing that this support improves people’s lives is incredibly rewarding, and it also helps me stay connected with the armed forces community.”
The Bridge for Heroes is currently appealing for more volunteers to join its team, particularly drivers who can help bring beneficiaries into the centre.
This essential transport service is made possible thanks to The Veterans Foundation grant project, “Project In Reach”, which enables the charity to support veterans and their family members who, due to physical, psychological, or mental health issues, would otherwise be unable to access the Bridge Centre without escorted transport.
The charity says there are a variety of volunteer opportunities available for people wanting to give back to the armed forces community, whether they can offer a few hours a week or more regular support.
